South Port New Zealand (South Port) has marked a significant milestone with its recent half-year financial results, reflecting a period of operational improvements and enhanced efficiency. The port, which serves as a crucial hub for southern New Zealand’s logistics and transport network, has successfully increased the volume of cargo handled while operating with fewer container vessel calls.

Napier Port extends its care and support to everyone affected by the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle. The two years of global pandemic have been tumultuous for Port of Auckland. As the centre of New Zealand’s COVID-19 outbreaks it felt the effects of the pandemic more sharply than other NZ ports. COVID-19 continues to have a significant impact on its performance and throughput, but there is hope that the port is entering “what is hopefully a better era”.

CentrePort’s central location and natural sheltered deep-water harbour help make it the port of choice for Central New Zealand as a vital logistics supply chain asset for regional businesses and communities.

In August last year, Mick Payze and Mark Oxley, together with Richard Reinen-Hamill and Greg McKeown presented to CILT Northern Section on ‘Auckland Port – Move it or Not?’ and concluded that the port should move to a greenfield site on the Manukau. Now 12 months (plus) on, Mick and Mark, this time joined by Sian John, an environmental scientist, have presented a follow-up.

In June, the Office of the Auditor-General published a report on the main findings and reflections from our 2019/20 audits of port companies. This is their first formal report about port companies.

A diverse portfolio of trades consisting of bulk imports/exports such as fertiliser, stock feeds, fuel, logs, and cement – that accounts for 1.64 million tonnes (90 per cent) of cargo – supports PrimePort’s resilience.
