Greetings to all,
The October CILT breakfast meeting will be held at the Mount RSA on October 21st
Our guest speaker for this meeting is Chartered Fellow Tony Boyle.
June next year marks the 50th anniversary since the arrival of the first container ship to New Zealand.
Prior to this event all imports and exports were break bulk so the arrival of the ship changed the way cargo is handled in New Zealand forever.
The lead up to the ship’s arrival and its operation at New Zealand ports is an integral part of the history of logistics in this country.
Tony Boyle managed the operation of the vessel and has agreed to share the experience with us at our October meeting.
Apart from reflecting on the actual ship operation, his presentation will touch on the initial decision to containerise New Zealand’s trade, difficulties that had to be overcome, the shipping lines that were involved and talk about some of the people who were critical in getting containerisation established.
This will be a very interesting presentation, one not to miss.
The charge for the breakfast will be $17.50.
RSVP and payment is required no later than two days prior to the date of the meeting please so we can confirm numbers attending with the caterers
Our bank account is 01 0373 0127418 02.
Brought to you by CILT NZ Waikato-BoP Section.
