Are We Ready for the New Container Weight Rules?

Some months ago, Murray King wrote about the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) decision to require that all loaded containers in international trade should have their weight verified, so called Verified Gross Mass or VGM. Up until now the obligation to declare the weight has not always been accurately complied with. So the IMO has introduced mechanisms by which the weight is independently verified.

Passion for Ships Steered Career Choice for Graeme Marshall

Graeme Marshall’s decades-long involvement in the ports industry began in his mid-20s. Mr Marshall spent 19 years at Napier Port, ending up as general manager, then moved to Port of Tauranga (POT) in 1997. He was commercial manager as Tauranga grew to become the country’s leading port, stepping down in 2013 to take up a range of director and advisory positions.

Pollution Doubles Near Auckland Motorways

People who live beside Auckland’s Southern Motorway are subjected to air pollution at nearly double the level of those 130m further away. Researchers say preventing people from living within 20m of highways would reduce health risks.
